About the ministry

Helping shepherds remain faithful for the long road.

The Undershepherd Group exists to care for, strengthen, and equip those entrusted with the spiritual care of others.

Our story

Every shepherd needs a shepherd.

Pastors, ministry leaders, and missionaries are often expected to remain strong for everyone else. They preach hope, guide people through crisis, carry confidential burdens, navigate conflict, and lead through seasons of uncertainty—often while their own weariness remains unseen.

Receiving care can be especially difficult in ministry. Some leaders fear that honesty will be mistaken for weakness, that asking for help could affect their reputation or position, or that there is no truly confidential place to speak apart from the expectations of a church, board, sending agency, or ministry community. Missionaries may also face geographic isolation, limited access to culturally informed care, financial constraints, and the strain of deputation, cross-cultural service, transition, entry, and re-entry.

The Undershepherd Group exists because those who care for others deserve a trusted place to be known and strengthened. Our ministry grows out of decades of pastoral leadership, missions, church planting, counseling, and walking alongside leaders through growth, transition, conflict, dismissal, grief, renewal, and new beginnings.

We provide biblically grounded, relationally wise care that respects both a leader’s calling and the complexity of the context in which that calling is lived. We listen carefully, protect confidentiality within appropriate ethical and legal limits, recognize when specialized professional care is needed, and help leaders pursue health without shame.

Our goal is not simply to help leaders do more. It is to help them become whole, remain faithful, and finish well.
